Over the past year, I have received many messages regarding my style and Instagram page.
I have also been told endless amounts of time, by my followers, “I’ve tried getting into makeup and taking decent selfies to post onto Instagram but it doesn’t work out so I stop trying” or “I want to get into makeup but I feel as though the makeup I own isn’t good enough”. Not only that, I’ve been told that some people don’t have the support from the people around them, whilst also worrying about not receiving “enough likes,” so they delete their posts and give up. Thus, I believe I can use this article to somewhat help those who feel this way.
Firstly, to clear the elephant in the room, likes. This seem to be the topic everyone is worried about. THERE. IS. NO. SUCH. THING. AS. “ENOUGH LIKES”. There is no limit you have to satisfy to get somewhere, just 1 like can show you that there is that one person who cares about your work and wants to see you grow online! Do not let likes stop you from doing you. I have had the same Instagram account for 5 years now, and my likes were only 20-30 max, but I did not let that stop me. Next, it may be a little disheartening not having support by the people around you, but trust me, 1. Your followers will become some of the best supporters you will EVER have, people you don’t even know will suddenly help shape your content and where you are heading, and 2. YOU ARE YOUR BIGGEST SUPPORT! As long as you believe in yourself, you will be going places!
When I first started building my page properly last 2015, thanks to @rowisingh for inspiring, a few people around me were thinking, “what r u doing m8,” as I was getting out of my comfort zone and was playing around with bindi’s in a non-traditional fashion. I didn’t listen, and kept doing ma thang. Now they support me and my page 110%. You just need to give yourself the push. The type of makeup you own does not define you and your content, honestly, it should not even be a worry for you. Owning the high-end brands may not even work for you the way other brands do, so use what you like; at the end of the day, it’s MAKEUP either way!
Lastly, when I get told “I have tried but it doesn’t work out so I stop trying”, I get upset. DO NOT STOP TRYING! By trying over, and over, and over again, you will find what works for you, and what doesn’t. By stopping, and starting again you may fall into the same issues, therefore, not allowing you to show your full potential. Never forget – I used to post selfies by leaning my phone on against a wall, on self-timer, whilst I had foundation 3-4 shades lighter than my skin, lol. I know, whoever if reading this, has A.M.A.Z.I.N.G potential, so just step out your comfort zone, believe in yourself, be your #1 supporter and you have the world in your hands.
It will take some time, but just do not give up.
